Bill O'Reilly had a segment today about a Judge who gave a child
rapist a 60 day sentence. Bill's guests for the segment were
Geoffrey Nathan (Criminal Defense Attorney) and Ed Ryan (Former
President of the Massachussetts Bar Association). He asked them
if they thought the sentence was just.
Claiming he no longer believes in punishment, a Vermont judge
issued a 60-day sentence to a man who confessed to repeatedly
raping a girl over a four-year period, beginning when she was 7
years old.
Judge Edward Cashman disagreed with prosecutors who thought
Mark Hulett, 34, of Williston, Vt., deserved eight to 20 years in
prison, reported WCAX-TV in Burlington, Vt.

Judge Edward Cashman, a Vermont District Court judge sentenced
child rapist to 60 days in jail. Among the reasons for his
sentence, Cashman said that a more severe sentence would have be
"wasting state money," and "not solving problems"
"It doesn't make anything better; it costs us a lot of money;
we create a lot of expectation, and we feed on anger," Cashman
explained to the people in the court, WCAX reported.

If you are as outraged as I am, contact Governor Jim Douglas of
Vermont and let him know, especially if you are a resident of
Vermont. Urge Gov. Douglas to enact a version of Jessica's Law
(Mandator 25 year sentence for child molestation). How is your
state doing in this regard?

"Gun control often serves as a gateway to tyranny. Tyrants from
Hitler to Mao to Stalin have sought to disarm their own citizens,
for the simple reason that unarmed people are easier to control.
Our Founders, having just expelled the British army, knew that
the right to bear arms serves as the guardian of every other
right. This is the principle so often ignored by both sides in
the gun control debate. Only armed citizens can resist tyrannical
government." - Ron Paul
